Dehesa del Carrizal presents its new vintages in Bratislava
Even though Slovakian wines have been in fashion for quite some time, the truth is Slovakian wine lovers demand ever more quality wines from the large producing countries. Since 2004, wine consumption hasn’t stopped growing. Although it is mostly a wine drinking country (78.2 litres per year and inhabitant against 12.5 litres of wine), interest in quality wines becomes higher every day. And so it is claimed by the report “The wine market in Slovakia”, prepared by the Trade and Economy Office of the Spanish Embassy in Bratislava in 2014.
In order to respond to this increasing interest, Miroslav Fondrk, owner of the wine distributor Best Wines Slovakia, organized at the end of last month a tasting session of Dehesa del Carrizal wines for professionals and end consumers. It took place at The Taste, a new wine bar located in the old town of Bratislava, where —in addition to Slovakian wines— a great variety of French, Italian and mainly Spanish wines are served.
The new vintages were presented during the tasting and they were compared with some previous vintages from the collection Dehesa del Carrizal: MV 2011, Chardonnay 2013, Syrah 2011 and 2005, Cabernet
Sauvignon 2011 – 2007 – 2002 – 1999, Petit Verdot 2012, and Colección Privada 2011.
Our wine also in Wien
Since Bratislava and Wien are so close, another tasting was organized at Ignacio, Vinos e Ibéricos, our favourite place in the Austrian capital. The tasting session was divided in small groups; the most appropriate Dehesa del Carrizal wines were recommended to match each dish chosen by the customer from the new menu offered by Ignacio and his staff.
Raquel García, the cook at Ignacio, Vinos e Ibéricos, is introducing new techniques in Austria which are already used in Spanish restaurants even though they are very innovative in the Austrian market. The most successful dishes were the “pluma ibérica” (pork loin) cooked at low temperature and the beef marrow with black truffle. And to drink? We served our Chardonnay 2011 and 2013, MV 2008 and 2011, Syrah 2011, Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 and 2011, Petit Verdot 2012, and Colección Privada 2011.
