Cabernet, Chardonnay and Syrah are preferred by Americans
The U.S. has become the largest consumer in the world —with 29 million hectolitres per year— surpassing France for the first time in history. The U.S. market grows bigger every year: in 2013 Americans purchased 50 million litres more than in 2012. This tendency is expected to consolidate in the coming years. Therefore, entering the great U.S. market is becoming a priority for wine producing countries.
Dehesa del Carrizal has started its expansión on the East Coast of the U.S. thanks to its distributor Spanish Acquisition. So far, the winery’s efforts are focused on New York and New Jersey. However, its aim is to spread its presence to other areas in the country, mainly the West Coast (California) and the state of Texas.
Beatriz Munsuri, sales manager at Dehesa del Carrizal, travelled to the U.S. last November. During a week, she took part in a large number of showrooms and tasting events with the aim of publicizing Dehesa del Carrizal wines to the public of New York.
This way, customers of Despaña Vinos y Más had the opportunity to try the new vintages of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, two varieties much appreciated by American wine lovers.
In New Jersey, at Joe Canals West Deptford the winner of the evening was our Syrah. Also in New Jersey, Cabernet Sauvignon was all the rage at Select Vintage Wines.
Another landmark where our wines were presented was Ambassador Wine & Spirits, in Midtown Manhattan. It is a store with an amazing wine collection and its customers were very pleased with the wines from Dehesa del Carrizal.
